Birdcoat is an online quarterly literary journal featuring poetry, lyric essay, and galleries of visual art. We aim to connect diverse creative communities through the dual platform of publishing fresh, new voices and hosting immersive events. We publish a yearly print anthology of selected work from our online issues.
Formerly Muse/A Journal, Birdcoat is the collaborative vision of Anna Sandy-Elrod (Editor-in Chief), Anya Vostrova (Managing/Lyric Essays Editor), Shannon Finck (Poetry Editor), & Shamar Hill (Contributing Editor).
We welcome submissions that blur genre and play with form, experiment with compression or expansion, use language in surprising ways, and bring attention to subject matter of contemporary urgency or uncommon interest. We especially love work that is tender, weird, and wild, hard-hitting and incisive, clear-sighted and daring. Stun us, wound us, share your gifts, or keep us warm—send us work that is unapologetically yours.
